Frequently Asked Questions:
How long do I have to wait before I get paired?
---
This depends; once you apply, you are
eligible for pairing. While we work hard to
make sure all tutees are paired in time,
we can not guarantee that anyone is the
right fit for your specifications at this time.
How do I know that I have been paired successfully?
---
Once we have paired you with a tutee, you will
receive an email from us with the personal
information of your tutee and their parents
which you will use to then contact them to
discuss meeting times and pay.
How do I best prepare for tutoring my tutee?
---
The best way to do this is to contact your tutee's teachers,
more specifically the teachers who are teaching the subject
your tutee wishes to be assisted in. From then on, you can
create a study plan to ensure your tutee is focusing on topics
that hold relevancy to their studies. If you want to be extra
thorough, you may confirm the plans with both the teacher
and the parent.
Do I need to be smart in my subjects?
---
Yes and no. Your tutor will always be younger than you, but you
will also be allowed to choose the grade level you feel confident
in tutoring. Please ensure that if you select a grade level and a
subject, it is something you are absolutely confident in. Our
priority here at the study buddy system is to give the kids the
most beneficial help possible.
What about money?
---
From this year onwards, we have decided that money will no
longer be allowed as a form of payment. The only way to earn
money is if you are a grade 11 or 12 student, which then the
money received would go to the Service Trip Coordinator.
Then what is our payment?
---
By tutoring for free, your payment would be in the form of
service hours. For grades 9 and 10, this would be applicable for
your service and action requirements. For grades 11 and 12, this
would be applicable for your CAS hours. The Study Buddy
program is a simple way to earn those service hours as only one
hour per week is required, and would make for a good long-term
service if you are looking for one.
